Have you always been a snacker? Yes…me too! I would regularly snack on unhealthy food. Not a day would go by where I would not eat a bag of crisps, a bar of chocolate, or drink a fizzy drink. I also loved burger and chips. I was addicted to snacking. It would make me feel tired and flabby, and annoyed at my lack of will power. What I really wanted was to feel energised and to slim down and tone up.
I went from snacking and eating unhealthy food every day to rarely eating food that was bad for me and only snacking on rare occasions as a treat. Believe me if I can do it you can. I was a snackaholic for years until I applied some simple practical tips to my life.
I am not a nutritionist or a dietician, I am just a normal person who wanted to find practical, non-faddy ways to beat an unhealthy snacking addiction. The tips I’ve set out below are what have worked for me and I want to share them with you. I believe anyone could incorporate these practical tips into their lives. And I am proof that they work.
Tip 1: Track your eating habits daily – using colour:
Track your eating daily! Yes, daily, it is quick and simple to do.
Here is a straightforward example of how I track my food. I created an excel spreadsheet on my ipad / laptop. If you prefer you can use good old fashioned pen and paper and some coloured pens. The important thing is to be able to have quick access to your chart tracker so that you can edit it and monitor your eating habits daily. The key is the coloured pens/coloured fills. It stands out a mile when you have eaten an unhealthy snack and has a big impact.
I decided to use the colour red to highlight any snacks I eat that contain a high level of sugar or unhealthy fats. I use green to track how many fruits and vegetables I have eaten each day and I use yellow for any unhealthy, fatty carbohydrates I have eaten.
